In addition to the new MacBook Pro, Apple also unveiled a “traditional” 13-inch MacBook Pro that is aimed at replacing the 13-inch MacBook Air. Slimmer, lighter, and smaller than the 13-inch MacBook Air, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro comes with a 13-inch Retina Display and significantly more powerful internals.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro is only 14mm thin, which makes it 12 percent slimmer than the existing 13-inch MacBook Air. In addition, it is also smaller than the MacBook Air despite coming with the same 13.3-inch size display albeit with Retina resolution.
The new ‘traditional 13-inch MacBook Pro features Intel’s dual-core Core i5 or i7 processor, Intel Iris GPU, up to 16GB RAM, Force Touch and features the company’s new super fast SSD that is capable of reaching speeds of up to 3GB/s. Unlike the other two 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro models, the ‘traditional’ 13-inch MacBook Pro does not feature a TouchBar and Touch ID sensor. It also only features two Thunderbolt 3.0 ports.
While aimed at replacing the 13-inch MacBook Air, Apple will continue to sell the laptop for the time being , though without any hardware refresh.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro starts shipping today, with prices starting from $1499.
